That is the heart of the decision. Cord blood stem cells are used today in established treatments for more than 80 conditions, including certain blood cancers, blood disorders and immune conditions. Research is also exploring new possibilities, and families here have already taken part, including in the KKH autism trial that we supported.
Families choose to store for different reasons. Some want a medical safeguard for their child and siblings. Others are motivated by the pace of research, or simply do not want to look back with regret over a chance they cannot recreate.
