What is amnion?

The amnion is the innermost layer of the placenta, the thin membrane that surrounds and protects your baby during pregnancy.

What makes it special?

The amniotic membrane is rich in stem cells, growth factors and proteins with natural anti inflammatory and healing properties. Doctors have used amniotic membrane in medicine for many years.

What can amnion be used for?

Amniotic membrane is already used as a graft in eye surgery, where it helps the surface of the eye heal, and in wound care, where it supports healing of the skin.

What is being researched?

Researchers are studying the wider potential of amnion in regenerative medicine. These uses are still being researched and are not yet proven.

Why store amnion?

A wider safety net. Another source of stem cells from the same birth.
Family friendly. The amniotic membrane has low immunogenicity, so it may be suitable for use across family members, depending on the medical situation.
One chance. Like cord blood and cord tissue, it can only be collected at birth.

How is it collected?

Collection is simple, safe and painless. After your baby is born and the placenta is delivered, our team carefully separates the amnion and prepares it for storage. It does not involve your baby and does not change your birth plan.

Stored to the same standards

We process and store amnion tissue at our Singapore laboratory, which is licensed by the Ministry of Health and accredited by AABB for somatic cell activities, including amnion tissue.

* Established medical uses of amniotic membrane are in eye surgery and wound care. Other uses are still being researched. Whether a stored sample can be used is decided by a doctor.
